New Apple Accessory? Xteink X3 Review with CrossPoint Firmware

Sep 1, 2026 / Video

Description

A New Apple Accessory? In this video, I review the Xteink X3, a tiny e-reader that attaches to the back of an iPhone, and explain why I chose the third-party CrossPoint firmware.

The X3 is incredibly portable—something I can carry everywhere without even thinking about it. But that convenience comes with compromises: the device is fragile, the proprietary magnetic cable is inconvenient, and Chinese, Korean, and Japanese reading support is not perfect yet.
The latest CrossPoint firmware can improve CJK support by adding extra fonts to the SD card, but reading CJK books still feels slower than reading English. Hopefully, this can improve through future firmware updates.
In this video, I’ll cover:
- What makes the Xteink X3 useful
- Why I chose CrossPoint firmware
- The differences between the official and third-party firmware experience
- The device’s biggest weaknesses
- Whether the X3 is practical as an everyday e-reader
This is not an official Apple accessory—it’s an unofficial accessory concept built around the iPhone.
In the next video, I’ll design a protective case for the X3 and explore how to turn it into a wearable E Ink badge.
